As part of the Lewis & Clark IDU, the students participated in an interview with Dr. Ed Huckeby, composer of "And We Proceeded On", via Skype. Dr. Huckeby answered the students questions about music and composing. This was an outstanding opportunity to talk with a contemporary band composer, live. Because everything was in real-time, students could ask questions and receive an immediate answer. This was all while the entire class could see Dr. Huckeby on the LCD screen. Our classroom computer is hooked up to the sound system in the band room so the interview could be heard by everyone. This activity was so effective and interactive for each student. They learned more about how the piece was composed and some of the programmatic qualities within the music. ReplyDeleteThis project is amazing. I'm really enjoying the work students have posted on your WikiPages. If you're so inclined I'd encourage to share this project at IMEA next January as a technology presentation. It's a great example of how teachers can use technology to enhance music learning while keeping students engaged and thinking on a high level.
